Land Rover has thoroughly redesigned its Discovery midsize luxury SUV for the 2017 model year, and the result is a streamlined all-terrain vehicle that's exceptionally well-equipped inside and out, and exceptionally capable of going wherever you wanderlust leads you. Forbes auto writer John McCormick recently the new 2017 Land Rover Discovery out for a spin through the wilds of Utah.

First off, this is not the blocky Discovery you may remember. Instead, it's a sleeker model with rounded edges and runs nearly 1,000 pounds lighter, thanks to the extensive and strategic use of aluminum in the body paneling and elsewhere. The result is better aerodynamics on the highway and more nimble performance on all road surfaces.

Under the hood, the 2017 Discovery offers two engine options. The base is a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that delivers 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. For better fuel efficiency, you might opt for the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6, which pumps out 254 horsepower and an impressive 442 pound-feet of torque at the low end. Towing capability is impressive - up to 8,200 pounds for the gasoline-powered V6.
